Mimic by Clandestine Devices
The Clandestine Devices pride themselves of creating “products that serve a purpose through their design and, most importantly, can be enjoyed by anyone”. For the time being, they seem to be only selling the Mimic.
If we were to describe Mimic by using as few words as possible, we’d go for the words two-faced. At first sight, this cute little vibrator impressed us with its packaging, shape and its feel in our hand. However, once we got to know it better, it was quite a let down. Underneath Mimic’s beautiful surface is, unfortunately, a rather unimpressive vibrator.
As always we’ll first cover the specs. It measures 9.5 cm (3.74”) in length and 10 cm (3.94”) in width. Mimic is USC rechargeable and waterproof. It is made of body-safe silicone and it has an attractive LED light at the base, which lights up during charging and use. It comes with 6 intensity speeds and 8 vibration patterns. It has a travel lock to prevent your luggage from any sudden vibrating sensations and sounds while you are on the road.
Starting with the first impressions, the packaging is magnificent. It comes in a heavy cardboard toy which includes several compartments. One of the compartments holds the Mimic, which is itself protected by a plastic shield that is moulded against Mimic’s unique shape. Although we are not massive fans of plastic, this has a pragmatic purpose as it acts as a hygienic seal, making sure that no one else has touched the toy before you. Another compartment holds a satin storage bag, which we really appreciate as we have two cats at home and like to protect the toys from them, before the C-19 situation we also used to travel often for which a pouch is very useful. The box also holds the charger and the instructions.
Staying on the surface, the toy looks really cool. Its shape resembles a stingray. We find organic shapes resembling underwater creatures quite hot and Mimic fits right into that category. The toy is made from a velvety silicone. Although a lot of toys at this price-point come in what we would describe as a velvety silicone, this one feels lighter and less sticky than others, if that makes sense. Furthemore, its ergonomic shape makes it fit perfectly in our palms. The two “wings of the kite” fit perfectly between the index and ring fingers, so it’s easy and very enjoyable to hold. And the shape also nicely fits on our vulvas.
Digging deeper, its vibrator is quite weak and buzzy. We expected more for this price range and the first impressions additionally ramped up our expectations, so we felt let down once we tried it. In Mimic defence, the producer’s website says that it offers “soft and subtle vibrations”, which really hits the head on the nail. In our defence, the vibrations are too weak to make us orgasm, even if we are pinpointing its tip, where the vibrations are the most concentrated, to our most sensitive clit areas.
To add to the positive, it is a quiet vibrator and it has easy to press buttons. It comes in three colours, lilac, seafoam (turquoise) and black.
There is a newer model of Mimic, which is called Mimic Plus, and is supposed to have a more powerful vibrator. However, we have not tried it yet so we cannot recommend it. Nevertheless, there are numerous other fab clitoral vibrators, with more power and come at an even lower price point, that we can recommend to you. For example, check out the Laya II by Fun Factory, which is another cool-looking and ergonomically designed toy that is lovely to hold and nicely fits our vulvas and has a rather powerful vibrator. Another option that we would recommend is the Satisfyer Curvy 3+, which is also made from a high-quality material that is very pleasant to hold. Furthermore, it vibrates and pulsates at the same time, as well as connects to your app where you can create your own vibrating and pulsating patterns, so a great toy all around. FYI, we will be sharing our full reviews of these toys shortly, but we are excited to share that our first few tests seem very promising.
Thank you Svet Erotike, for sending us Mimic in exchange for an honest review.
